Disruptive Technologies – Simply Amazing!
April 27, 2014 7:00 amA while back we wrote a post about disruptive technology (robotics in Pittsburgh). We continue to find a great deal of interest in disruptive technologies, so we thought we’d take a look at another hot topic…
3D Printing.
Did you know that recently in China a giant 3D printer was used to print 10 full-sized houses in just one day? That’s right – they actually printed 10 full sized houses in just one day, and the houses cost only $5,000 USD each to build… Wow!
And here is a video link on the same story… it’s a Chinese news feature of the man behind this distruptive technology and its totally incredible!
And here is the part that will really get your attention: it’s not only happening in China… the University of Southern California is testing 3D printers that could be used to build whole houses within 24 hours. Right here in North America! The lead professor at USC who designed the robot printer made an interesting observation saying, “if you look around you pretty much everything is made automatically these days… your shoes, your clothes, home appliances, your car. The only thing still being built by hand are these buildings.”
Here is a link to a story about that with a much more impressive picture…
Not many of us have ever heard of “countour crafting” before, but we have a hunch that sometime in the future we will all know what it is quite well. This is fascinating stuff!
Lastly, here is a short video (computer generated) that shows how countour crafting is actually done, what the printers look like, etc.
We hope you’ve found our posts on disruptive technologies to be encouraging as you look with us for Alternative Vision Investing strategies. Feel free to comment & share!
